Policies and procedures will be continually updated to align with the BC government’s current health requirements and regulations.

Studio Lobby and Waiting Room: These areas will be closed until further notice.

Faculty Illness and Screening: Faculty will be asked not to come to work if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, and must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days.

Student Illness and Screening: Dancers will be asked not to come to the studio if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days. Sorry, no refunds for missed classes. Make up classes may be available upon request.

All Students and Parents: All symptomatic visitors will be asked not to enter Allegro Performing Arts Centre. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, and must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days.

Anyone under the direction of the provincial health officer to self-isolate must follow the instructions given to them.

Anyone who has arrived from outside of Canada, or who is in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case must self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms before coming to the studio.

All dancers that have travelled outside of the Island Health region for non-essential purposes, please take 14 days upon return to monitor for covid-19 symptoms before returning to class. If further travel restrictions are implemented or further health orders are issued regarding inter-regional travel, Allegro Performing Arts Centre will adopt those new regulations and restrictions as policy. This policy will stay in place until the government of BC has lifted all travel orders, restrictions and bans regarding Covid-19.

Arriving Prepared For Class: Dancers will be asked to arrive prepared for class, already dressed in appropriate attire, along with their hair already done and pulled back as required.

Students Arriving via bus from school: Students who come straight from school and arrive on a bus, we have a plan for you and will walk you through it when you arrive on your first day.

Personal Protective Equipment and Procedures

Masks:

  • All dancers, parents and visitors are required to wear a mask in class as well as in common areas.

  • Individuals will be expected to provide their own masks. Masks should be stored in a sealed bag (such as a ziplock).

  • Individuals who are physically unable to place or remove a face mask without assistance are exempt from the requirement. Allegro also acknowledges that individuals who are physically, psychologically, or developmentally unable to wear a mask, or protected under the British Columbia Human Rights Act, may come forward with accommodation requests. There are likely to be a few medically related reasons individuals cannot wear masks and allowing people to wear face shields in most circumstances should reduce the need for any accommodations.

  • Mask exemptions will be made for those dancers who qualify under the BC government Mask Mandate Order, provided a written request is made prior to class.

  • Sanitizing stations will be at the entrance to each studio, dancers and visitors will be required to use them as they enter the classrooms.

  • Hand sanitizer will be provided but personal hand sanitizer is recommended to keep in your dance bag for your own use.

Minimizing Shared Equipment and Touch Surfaces Whenever Possible: There will be no shared props, dance shoes

Enhanced cleaning & sanitation procedures are in affect.

Physical Distancing: The studio will be marked out with appropriate space designation during class time. Students, teachers and visitors must maintain physical distancing at all times. 2 metres of space must be maintained between students, 3 metres of space must be maintained between teachers and students.

Air Flow: Windows and doors will be kept open as much as possible to increase air flow and circulation in the studios. This has been found to be an effective measure against COVID-19.

Water Bottles: Dancers will be asked to bring enough water to last them throughout the day. No sharing of water. Refilling of water bottles will be strongly discouraged. Bottles will be kept inside dancers personal bags when not in use.

More than ever, it is important to label ALL of your items with your child’s name to prevent mix ups. This included water bottles and all dance shoes/dance wear.

Required Daily Items: Students will be asked to only bring items required for the day, no extra personal items in the studio please.

Cleaning and Hygiene: There are adequate hand-washing facilities on site for all students and teachers. Teachers and students must wash their hands, upon arriving for work/class, before and after breaks, between classes and before and after handling common equipment.

Washroom Use: Washrooms will be available for use; they will have a occupancy limit of 2 and be cleaned and sanitized regularly.

Kitchen Area:  Snacks can be eaten inside only in our designated kitchen area with the same care and distancing as we use throughout the day in class; the kitchen will have an occupancy limit of 6 people. Dancers are asked to properly clean their area of use and leave no garbage behind. Hand sanitizer or hand washing will be available for dancers to use prior to and after their break. Proper sanitization of high touch areas will also take place frequently throughout the day.

Dancers Entering for Class: In an effort to reduce the amount traffic within the studio, we ask that dancers ages 7 and older enter the studio by themselves. We recognize that our youngest dancers (6 and under) might have trouble entering the building on their own. To support our younger dancers as well as protect the health and safety of all our dancers, 1 parent or guardian will be permitted to enter the building with their child to help them get ready for class. This parent/guardian is asked to review the health screening question prior to entry in the building. They must sanitize their hands upon entry and follow the mask requirements listed above. Physical distancing guidelines must be followed. This parent/guardian will be able to enter the foyer with their dancer to help them get ready for class but they cannot remain in the building during class. After class one parent/guardian will be permitted back into the building to collect their dancer. We understand that there are times and circumstances that will require extra siblings to also enter the building and ask that they also sanitize their hands upon entrance and avoid the studio if they are unwell.
