The Countdown is On!
As of May 8, there are only three weeks until Dress Rehearsal!!!
There is one less Monday due to the May long weekend. Recital dances are now in full swing, so attending all classes is necessary. Remember that dancing is a team effort! If your child has to miss class due to illness or for any other reason, please call the office (or email) to let the teachers know. 250-656-8910.
Dance Extraordinaire (Recital) Dates
Recitals will be at the ROYAL THEATRE on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4 (2 shows per day – every show is different). Each class performs in the Recital. *Dancers who take multiple classes will most likely be in more than one Recital. There will be an all day dress rehearsal on Sunday, May 28, which will also take place at The Royal Theatre. These three dates are very important, so please mark them on your calendar as everybody at the studio participates in the rehearsals and the performances. Please remember that in order to dance in the Recital you must attend the dress rehearsal!
The Royal Theatre is located on the corner of Blanshard and Broughton St (805 Broughton)
Sunday, May 28 – 9:00 am – 6:00 pm – each dance will have a specific block of time they need to attend. Dress rehearsal typically runs in order of the shows. Therefore, if you see your dancer is in the Saturday 1PM Recital, they will likely rehearse on Sunday morning. SCHEDULE IS COMING SOON!
- Saturday, June 3 show times – 1:00 pm & 7:00 pm
- Sunday, June 4 show times – 11:00 am & 4:00 pm
Entry to the theatre for Dress rehearsal and Recital is through the backstage door (Blanshard St). We will provide the 4-digit safety code closer to the time.
Tickets for the Recital will be going on sale on Saturday, May 13 at 10:00 am at the McPherson Box office (Pandora & Government Street). Tickets can be purchased in person, by phone at 250-386-6121 or on-line at www.rmts.bc.ca. Please remember to check the FINAL DRAFT of the Recital order before purchasing your tickets.
Prices include TAX, but do not include Royal/McPherson service charge. NOTE: Tickets for the balcony will only be sold once the main floor has been sold out.
- General - $21.00
- Students and Seniors -$18.00
FYI: All tickets will be charged a $3.50 service charge (per ticket) by the Royal/McPherson Box office. If you are ordering by phone, you will be charged an additional $2.00 per ticket. If you are ordering on-line you will be charged an additional $3.00 per ORDER (not per ticket). So if you are purchasing many tickets, you are probably better off to order in person or on-line.
This is a friendly reminder that there will likely be a balance owing for your dancer's Recital costume(s). Our seamstresses and costume coordinators are working around the clock to get hundreds of costumes ready for the same big weekend! For the most part, costumes are either hand made locally, or ordered from professional costume companies. Costume payment and pick up will be from Tuesday, May 23 - Saturday, May 27. *All accounts must be up to date in order to receive your dancer’s costume. You will receive an invoice by email for your costume balance 1 or 2 days prior to the start of costume pick up week.
Please consider signing up as a backstage parent, as there are not enough teachers to do this job! We do need the help of many volunteers in order to make things run smoothly, and to make sure our tiny dancers are well supervised. Sign up sheets are posted on the studio bulletin board. Attention parents of tap/jazz combo, Pre-School & primary classes: Please pick up your dancer from backstage immediately following their performance. We encourage parents to purchase a ticket for your young dancer so they can watch the performance. Back stage moms are not required to buy a ticket, unless you will be watching any portion of the show in an audience seat. Backstage volunteers are asked not to go to the audience until all the children in the class have been picked up. All dancers must be dropped off and picked up at the back stage door of the ROYAL THEATRE located on Blanshard Street. The back stage parent position can be shared between parents who have a dancer in opposite halves.
5 & 10-year Medals and Trophies
We have posted a sign up sheet in the hallway for students who have danced with us for exactly 5 or 10 years. (This must be 5 or 10 CONSECUTIVE years of performing in the recital). If you are at the 5 or 10-year mark, please sign up and you will receive a medal or trophy at the Recital in June to recognize your achievement. The deadline to sign up is May 8, as we are placing our trophy and medal orders shortly! Emailing us prior to May 8th is fine!
Grads of 2017
If you are graduating from high school this year, please let us know so we can acknowledge you at the year end recital. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway to list your name as well as your plans for next year. Frequently asked question: “Do I have to stop dancing once I graduate high school?” The answer is “ABSOLUTELY NOT! “ We like to acknowledge High School grads at Recital, as many people move on and do not continue dancing. However, many students continue to dance and we encourage them to do so! We offer many adult classes as well as classes specifically for recent high school graduates. We want you to keep dancing.
Leotard, Hair and Shoe Requirements

Photo Week: June 5–10
Class photos are typically taken on the day you dance, but not necessarily at the same time you dance. For example: Tuesday morning Pre-School photos will be taken on the Tuesday afternoon, not in the morning when their class normally takes place. Please mark these dates on your calendar, as we ask all dancers to attend, even if you do not plan to place a photo order. The photos are a wonderful keepsake for the dancers, teachers and for the studio. We would like to continue to update our viewing albums and our wall photos, and wish to have the entire class included. These photos are fun to look back on year after year and it’s so nice to see how all our dancers have grown. Please ensure your dancer is in their Recital costume, with proper hair, tights and shoes (the same as what will be required at the Recitals). Please wear enough make-up to brighten up the dancers face; full stage make-up is not required. Additional information and photo schedule will be coming soon.
