FESTIVAL NEWSLETTER 2012

This newsletter has been emailed to all Festival dancers as well as handed out in class.  If you did not receive the email, please let us know so we can add you to the Festival email group. Upcoming newsletters will be going out by EMAIL ONLY. 

Below is some information for this year’s Festival classes.  On the following page you will see a list of all the Performing Arts Plus classes (P.A Plus) that are working towards Festival.  We’ve also indicated which Festival each class will be attending.

 

*We have opted not to participate in the Upper Island (Nanaimo) Festival this year, due to the competition dates conflicting with Spring Break.  We look forward to attending this Festival again in the future as it has always been our favourite!

 

We are now starting to work on the lengthy process of filling out Festival entry forms etc. We understand that you may want to work out a budget for Festival Fees, costume fees etc. This year, each dancer’s Festival Fee for GROUP CLASSES should come to an average of approximately $15-$24 per group/per festival performance.  Example: If your dancer is in 3 dance classes and is attending 2 festivals per class, this totals 6 performances at Festival.  (Most groups are just doing 1 Festival this year; PYP Production is doing 2 Festivals). Solo/Small group entry fees are generally higher.  Bills for entry fees are sent out in February as we lead up to the Extravaganza.

 

*Keep in mind that the fee average varies from Festival to Festival & from year to year, depending on which Festivals we decide to enter that year.

 

Please note: Festival Fees are paid in advance by Allegro on behalf of each student.  If you withdraw from a Festival class after the Festival fees have been submitted by Allegro, you will be required to pay your Festival fees.

 

What is Festival? Festival is an extra performing experience that is offered to dancers in our Performing Arts Plus (P.A Plus) program.  Classes perform in front of an audience and adjudicator and receive comments and critiques from that dance specialist. For those parents/students who are new to Festival, we welcome you to ask us any questions that you may have! (Not all P.A Plus classes participate in Festival, which is why we’ve provided a list below for you).

 

Please mark the Festival Dates that pertain to your dancer on your calendar.  Your child's Festival performance will possibly take place during school hours.  Dancers who have committed to the Performing Arts Plus Program are expected to attend their Festival performance, even if the performance is scheduled during school hours.  Most school teachers are very supportive of our dancers around Festival time, as it is a very educational experience.  As this is a team effort, we ask families to please avoid booking vacations during Festival dates. *ALL FESTIVAL CLASSES perform at the “Dance Extravaganza” in February (See Calendar for dress rehearsal & performance dates).

February 24 – Dress Rehearsal for the Dance Extravaganza - Charlie White Theatre – ALL CLASSES GOING TO FESTIVAL PARTICIPATE.

February 25 – Dance Extravaganza – 2 shows - Charlie White Theatre – ALL CLASSES GOING TO FESTIVAL PARTICIPATE.

March 19 – March 23 – Spring Break

April 6 - 9 - Easter Weekend –no classes Friday, Saturday, or Monday

April 16 – 20 – Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival – ALL FESTIVAL CLASSES WILL BE PARTICIPATING.

May 5 – Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival Gala.  SOME FESTIVAL DANCES MAY BE CHOSEN TO PERFORM BY THE ADJUDICATOR.

May 8 – 11 – Core Dance Competition – Nanaimo, Port Theatre – PYP COMPANY PRODUCTION PERFORMS AT THIS FESTIVAL.

May 27 – Recital Dress Rehearsal – Royal Theatre

June 2 & 3 – Recitals - Royal Theatre

 

*Not all P.A Plus classes go to Festival.  See Festival Newsletter to see if your class is going.

*Festival classes are not participating in the Upper Island Festival this year (Nanaimo), as there is a conflict with Spring Break
